Michigan Supreme Court busy on last day of term

LANSING — A flurry of activity is expected on the last day of the Michigan Supreme Court’s term.

The court likely will issue up to seven rulings today.

Landowners who say their property was contaminated by Dow Chemical Co. are waiting to see if their 6-year-old lawsuit gets class-action status. The landowners won in a Saginaw County court and the state appeals court.

Dow appealed to the high court.

A Grand Rapids-area judge also could learn if he will be removed from office for living outside his judicial division and making an inappropriate comment to a clerk.

Other rulings being drafted are expected to touch on criminal sentencing issues, medical malpractice and a former cocaine addict’s effort to regain custody of her children.
